Dalyan

The pretty fishing town of Dalyan is just a 25 minute drive from Dalaman airport and famed for many reasons. Still fairly traditional in feel, this small town is now a popular tourist day trip destination where those staying in nearby resorts all come to marvel at the Kings of Kaunos Lycian rock tombs towering high on the cliff side over the town, and take the winding river boat journey through the reeds to Dalyans 7km of protected beach (Iztuzu) that plays home to endangered loggerhead turtles that lay their eggs on its shores at night.

Dalyan has a quite magical feel. The delta itself has strict building laws limiting large scale development and most buildings are a maximum of 2 stories high and within easy reach of the town centre. Across the canal the ruins of the ancient city of Kaunos can be found. Featuring a Roman theatre, basilica, fortifications and many other historical ruins to explore, Dalyan really is a place not just to stay or live, but to discover. Investment potential is great, prices of property are generally reasonable in comparison to many other areas and there is now a small community of ex-pats and foreigners living in the town year round.

The tranquil and picturesque town of Koycegiz with its wonderful lake is home to the source of the Dalyan Cayi (Dalyan Creek). The area is not very commercial yet and will appeal to those looking for a rural retreat and a little peace yet still wishes to be within easy reach of everywhere. The towns life revolves largely around the lakeshore where a couple of cafes, local bars and a handful of restaurants can be found and are ideal to spend a lazy afternoon or evening out.  The thermal mud baths at the Sultaniye Kaplicalari (Hot Springs) are another worthwhile pastime and just a short boat ride away that can ‘make you look 10 years younger’ if the claims are to be believed! The nearby town of Dalyan can also easily be reached via the same water taxi through the reeds and the beach of Iztuzu is just another stop along the way.
